New Programme Directors at LHP


The following Programme Directors have been appointed to lead LHP’s research themes:

Starting Well.

Professor Michael Beresford:

Michael is the Brough Chair and Professor of Child Health at University of Liverpool, and Honorary Consultant Paediatric Rheumatologist at Alder Hey Children’s NHS Foundation Trust. He is Specialty Cluster Lead for NIHR Clinical Research Network responsible for five National Specialty Groups including ‘Reproductive Health and Childbirth’ and ‘Children,’ and Clinical Director of the NIHR Alder Hey Clinical Research Facility for Experimental Medicine


Professor Andrew Pettitt:

Andrew is an Honorary Consultant Haemato-oncologist at the Clatterbridge Cancer Centre, Professor and Head of the Department of Molecular and Clinical Cancer Medicine at the University of Liverpool (UoL), and Chair of the NCRI Lymphoma Clinical Studies Group. He also chairs the UoL Clinical Trials Oversight Committee which is responsible for overseeing the merger of the UoL’s two CTUs.


Dr Stacy Todd:

Stacy is a Consultant in Infectious Diseases at Royal Liverpool University Hospital. Her research interests are in transmission of infection and she has previously worked on studies in UK, Malawi and Vietnam.  She has recently been part of a review of clinical infection research in Liverpool and is currently research lead for Tropical and Infectious Disease Unit at the Royal and is an NIHR NWC Research Scholar.


Professor Gregory Lip:

Gregory is Professor of Cardiovascular Medicine at the University of Birmingham and is also Adjunct Professor of Cardiovascular Sciences, Aalborg University, Denmark. He has recently been appointed as Director of Liverpool’s Centre for Cardiovascular Science and, from February 2019, will take up the position of the David A. Price-Evans Chair in Cardiovascular Medicine at the University of Liverpool.

The appointments are for 3 years in the first instance. They will agree their objectives with LHP, including one objective to be achieved in their first year to maximise impact and delivery of LHP’s business. 

The Programme Directors will be supported by Project Managers who are currently being appointed.
